Libra and Sagittarius compatibility
Libra and Sagittarius are an air sign and a fire sign who both like people, ideas and a good time. Libra brings grace and Sagittarius brings adventure. Sagittarius lists Libra among its three best matches, and astrologers describe the pair as easy company with a strong sense of fair play.
The basis for this reading
This page uses traditional Western astrology and Sun signs only. Libra is a cardinal air sign and Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. Air and fire are a pairing traditional astrology counts as compatible. Their modalities differ, so they move at different speeds. Counted around the zodiac they are two signs apart, which makes a sextile. Tradition treats the sextile as a friendly link that pays off when both people put some effort in. Sagittarius lists Libra among its three best matches. Libra does not return the favour, because its own third pick is a different sextile sign, but this is still a pairing Libra finds easy enough. This describes how the tradition reads the two signs. It is not a forecast for any real couple, and a full birth chart says far more than two Sun signs.
Libra and Sagittarius in love
Sagittarius courts with humour and invitations: a trip, a hike, a late talk about the meaning of life. Libra responds to that openness and adds romance and attention to detail. Sagittarius enjoys Libra's charm, and Libra enjoys Sagittarius's honesty, even when it is a bit blunt. The tradition reads this as a light, generous match. The risk lies in commitment styles. Libra wants a real partnership, and Sagittarius wants to keep its freedom. Both have to talk openly about what together means for them.
As friends
As friends they are a social pair who can talk to anyone. Libra keeps things smooth and Sagittarius keeps things interesting. They enjoy travel, debate and big group dinners. Libra sometimes smooths over Sagittarius's tactless remarks, and Sagittarius sometimes pushes Libra to say what it really thinks instead of what is polite. Friendships between them tend to be warm and long-lasting, with very little drama.
Money
Neither is a natural saver. Libra spends on beauty and comfort, and Sagittarius spends on travel and experiences. Both can be generous with friends. They do best with automatic savings and a shared fund for trips, which motivates both. Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, can be overly optimistic about what will be affordable later. Libra can be good at keeping things fair and balanced, if it makes a point of looking at the numbers instead of hoping they work out.
Friction points
Libra is cardinal and likes to set the tone for the relationship. Sagittarius is mutable and likes to change plans. Libra can feel Sagittarius is unreliable, and Sagittarius can feel Libra is too concerned with appearances. Sagittarius's bluntness can hurt Libra, who prefers tact. Libra's indecision can frustrate Sagittarius, who wants to say yes and go. Conflicts are rarely bitter, but they can repeat if nobody changes anything.
Day to day
Day to day, Libra wants the home to look good and feel peaceful, and Sagittarius wants it to be a launch pad. Libra may spend a weekend choosing cushions while Sagittarius is planning the next trip. Both can win if they agree that one weekend a month is for home and one is for adventure. Sagittarius should also try to put its boots away, because Libra notices the clutter more than it will say.
Verdict
Traditional astrology sees this sextile as friendly and generous. Libra and Sagittarius enjoy life together and bring out each other's warmth. It works best when Sagittarius commits clearly and Libra speaks plainly. Then the fun has a steady base under it.
