If your birthday is close to a zodiac boundary, choose the year you were born. These pages show the exact sign-change moment rather than a rounded date range.
Quick birthday sign check
Choose a month and day. This is designed for a quick answer—not to fake precision on transition dates.
If you are near a sign change, use a year-specific calendar and your exact birth time.
Why zodiac transition dates can vary
A sign boundary is a position on the zodiac circle, not a civil-calendar midnight. The Sun reaches that boundary at a precise instant. Because a year is not an exact whole number of days and civil time zones differ, the local calendar date of an ingress can shift around the familiar boundary.
That is why one source may list Aries as beginning March 20 while another gives March 21. The disagreement does not necessarily mean one table is “wrong”; many popular tables round an astronomical moment into a simplified date range.
What if your birthday is on a cusp date?
“Cusp” is commonly used for birthdays close to a sign transition. In a standard zodiac calculation, however, the Sun has a specific longitude at a specific moment. It is in one sign or the next; it is not halfway between signs because a birthday feels close to the boundary.
How the tropical zodiac relates to the seasons
The tropical zodiac is anchored to the seasonal cycle. Aries begins at the March equinox point, Cancer at the June solstice point, Libra at the September equinox point and Capricorn at the December solstice point. Those four signs are cardinal signs; fixed signs occupy the middle of each season and mutable signs complete the season.
| Seasonal point | Sign begins | Modality |
|---|---|---|
| March equinox | Aries | Cardinal |
| June solstice | Cancer | Cardinal |
| September equinox | Libra | Cardinal |
| December solstice | Capricorn | Cardinal |
The zodiac as a 360-degree circle
The twelve tropical signs are equal 30-degree sections. This is a cleaner way to understand the system than memorizing dates alone.
| Sign | Zodiac longitude |
|---|---|
| Aries | 0°–30° |
| Taurus | 30°–60° |
| Gemini | 60°–90° |
| Cancer | 90°–120° |
| Leo | 120°–150° |
| Virgo | 150°–180° |
| Libra | 180°–210° |
| Scorpio | 210°–240° |
| Sagittarius | 240°–270° |
| Capricorn | 270°–300° |
| Aquarius | 300°–330° |
| Pisces | 330°–360° |
Tropical dates are not every zodiac system
The date table on this page is for the tropical zodiac, widely used in modern Western astrology. Sidereal systems use a stellar reference and an ayanamsa, so the sign assigned to a date can differ. Astronomical constellations are another category again: their official boundaries are unequal and should not be substituted for twelve equal astrological signs.
