Definition
The permitted distance between an exact aspect angle and a chart’s actual angle.
Why it matters
Aspects rarely need to be mathematically exact to be used in astrology. The orb is the amount of leeway allowed on either side of the exact angle.
Example
If a conjunction is allowed an 8° orb, two planets 5° apart would normally be counted as conjunct under that rule.
Common confusion
There is no single universal orb table. Astrologers and traditions can use different limits depending on the planets and aspect involved.
